Where Should Your Group Stay? Coast, Broads or City

Norfolk is easy to cross. Norwich to Wells-next-the-Sea takes about an hour. Norwich to Great Yarmouth takes 30 minutes. Groups can mix beach days, boat days and city days without long drives. The Norfolk Coast National Landscape runs along the north shore.

• Norwich — a Norman castle, a cathedral with the second-tallest spire in England and Elm Hill's cobbled medieval street. Trains reach London Liverpool Street in under two hours. Good for guests arriving without a car.
• The north Norfolk coast — Cromer, Sheringham, Blakeney, Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham. Blakeney Point holds England's largest grey seal colony with thousands of pups born each winter. Holkham beach stretches four miles.
• The Broads — 125 miles of navigable rivers and lakes across Norfolk and Suffolk. Wroxham and Horning are the main hire bases. Day boats take 8–12 people, so the whole group can go out together.
• West Norfolk — King's Lynn, Hunstanton and the Sandringham Estate. Hunstanton faces west across the Wash, which makes it the only east coast resort with a sunset over the sea. Its striped chalk cliffs are unusual in Britain.

When Should You Book? Seasons and Events

Norfolk works all year. Picking your dates around a local event can make the trip better.

• Spring (April–May) — quieter beaches, seal pups on the sandbanks and good walking weather. Bank holiday weekends fill quickly.
• Summer (June–August) — beach days, boat hire and outdoor eating. Average highs sit around 21°C. Book large properties well ahead.
• Autumn and winter — grey seal pupping season at Horsey and Blakeney runs November to January. Add Christmas markets in Norwich and New Year house parties in big holiday homes.

Events worth planning around include the Royal Norfolk Show at Costessey in late June, the Norfolk and Norwich Festival in May, Cromer Carnival in August and the Wells Pirate Festival. Sandringham House opens to visitors for much of the year.

Group activities are straightforward here. Hire a day boat at Wroxham. Take a seal trip from Morston Quay to Blakeney Point. Walk a stretch of the 84-mile Norfolk Coast Path. Ride the North Norfolk Railway between Sheringham and Holt. Eat crab in Cromer where the boats land it.

How to Pick the Right Property

• Count the group properly — adults, children, couples, guests with mobility needs and any dogs. That sets your bedroom and bathroom numbers.
• Choose the setting — coast, Broads or near Norwich. Being close to a wedding venue or a station narrows the list fast.
